In April, Venerable Seck Hong Choon extended an official invitation to Zhao Puchu on behalf of KMSPKS and the Singapore Buddhist Lodge, inviting him to visit to Singapore.

On 17 May, Zhao Puchu accepted the invitation and agreed to lead a team of representatives from the Buddhist Association of China (BAC) and visit Singapore at the end of the year.

On 31 August, KMSPKS and SBL sent an official letter to BAC detailing the visit, including the full coverage of the travel expenses for Zhao Puchu and BAC representatives.

The visit took place on 23 September, with Zhao Puchu and his delegation receiving a warm welcome from Singaporean Buddhist and political leaders, as well as members of KMSPKS during their one-week stay.

On 23 September, Zhao Puchu, as Chairman of Buddhist Association of China and Vice-Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, visited Singapore for the first time with a group of BAC representatives. They were cordially received by Singapore Buddhist leaders — Venerable Seck Hong Choon, Venerable Shi Guang Qia, Venerable Shi Chang Kai, and Tan Kong Piat (President of Singapore Buddhist Lodge) — and political leaders — Ho Kah Leong (Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Communications and Information) and Phua Bah Lee (Senior Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Defence). Members of KMSPKS also accorded them a warm welcome during their visit to the monastery. During their one-week visit, Zhao Puchu visited several well-known Buddhist organisations, social welfare institutions, and Buddhist schools in Singapore.

Accompanied by Venerable Seck Hong Choon, Venerable Shi Guang Qia, Tan Kong Piat, and Wang Jiu An, Zhao Puchu met with several Singapore dignitaries including Deputy Prime Minister Ong Teng Cheong, and Senior Minister of State for Community Development Ch’ng Jit Koon.

Upon the invitation of Venerable Seck Hong Choon, Abbot of KMSPKS, the KMSPKS Board of Trustees, and the Singapore Buddhist Lodge, Chairman Zhao Puchu led a team of representatives from the Buddhist Association of China (comprising Venerable Shi Ming Yang, Venerable Shi Hui Yuan, Chen Bangzhi, You Xiang, Zhao Guochen, and Fang Dinghua) on an official visit to Singapore from Beijing on 23 November 1988, lasting six days from 23 to 30 November 1988.
