旧大雄宝殿落成,虎豹兄弟有出资捐建。

1954

宏船长老与宗教联谊会的代表们在克兰芝阵亡战士公墓举行法会。

 

Venerable Seck Hong Choon and IRO representatives held a prayer ceremony at Kranji War Cemetery.

1955

自1949年以来,宏船长老成立了卫塞节假日委员会,呼吁新加坡政府宣定卫塞节为法定公共假日,但这请求一直未果。到了1955年,由新加坡佛教总会集合各派的佛家弟子,团结一致向当时的新加坡首席部长戴维·马歇尔(David Marshall)提呈请愿书。 终于,在1955年6月15日,政府宣布卫塞节为公众假期。

新加坡建国后,为了庆祝卫塞节,宏船长老代表佛教总会在电台讲经说法,直到1980年代后。

 

 

Since 1949, Venerable Seck Hong Choon had formed a Vesak Holiday Committee to lobby for Vesak to be gazetted as a public holiday in Singapore. Repeated petitions were unsuccessful until 1955. Under the auspices of the Singapore Buddhist Federation (SBF), Buddhists of different traditions united their efforts and submitted a petition to David Marshall, then Chief Minister of Singapore. Finally, on 15 June 1955, the Council of Ministers declared Vesak as a public holiday.

In the years after Singapore’s independence until after the 1980s, Vesak Day was celebrated with Venerable Seck Hong Choon representing the SBF in giving Dharma talks on radio.

1958

宏船长老参加在新加坡博览中心为庆祝新加坡自治所举办的奠基仪式。

 

Venerable Seck Hong Choon participated in the foundation laying ceremony at Singapore Expo for the celebration of Singapore’s self-governance.

1961

宏船长老协助在新加坡扩建菩提学校。

 

Venerable Seck Hong Choon assisted in the expansion of Maha Bodhi School in Singapore.

1964

1964年,仍属马来西亚联邦的新加坡爆发了两次血腥种族冲突事件。此时,宏船长老聚集各宗教领袖提倡种族和谐共处。

同年,宏船长老被推委为新加坡佛教总会的第二任会长。

 

 

In 1964, violent communal riots broke out twice in Singapore, which was then part of the Federation of Malaysia. Venerable Seck Hong Choong gathered religious leaders from the various faiths to promote racial harmony and peace during the race riots.

In the same year, Venerable Seck Hong Choon was appointed the second President of the Singapore Buddhist Federation.

1965

因各佛教团体对庆祝卫塞节发生了争执,宏船长老与法乐法师便邀请各族佛教诸长老举行座谈会。为促进大小乘佛教教义和联络感情,向政府注册社团 – 新加坡佛教僧伽联合会。

新加坡佛教僧伽联合会成立后,光明山普觉禅寺一直是联系世界各地佛教僧伽的重要枢纽。

 

 

Disputes arose between the various Buddhist organisations over Vesak celebration matters. To mediate the situation, Venerable Seck Hong Choon and Venerable Dhammasukha invited leaders from the various Buddhist organisations to a forum. This eventually led to the formal registration of the Singapore Buddhist Sangha Organisation, which was set up to foster mutual understanding and harmony between Buddhist organisations in Singapore.

After the establishment of the Singapore Buddhist Sangha Organisation, KMSPKS served as an important hub for connecting Sangha members from around the world.

1966

10月29日 在光明山普觉禅寺召开第一届新加坡佛教僧伽联合会会员大会,宏船长老被选任为新加坡佛教僧伽联合会主席。

11月24日 与宗教联谊会举行“祈祷世界和平大会”,李光耀总理亲临祝福致词。

同时也为了纪念光明山普觉禅寺开山住持转道长老,主办律仪学会(三坛大戒),并启建水陆大斋胜会。

 

 

On 29 October, the first official meeting of the Singapore Buddhist Sangha Organisation took place at KMSPKS and Venerable Seck Hong Choon was elected as its Chairman.

On 24 November, Venerable Seck Hong Choon and IRO held a Grand Prayer for World Peace, with the then Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew giving the opening address.

In memory of its founder Venerable Sik Zhuan Dao, Venerable Seck Hong Choon held a Triple Platform Ordination Ceremony (三坛大戒) and organised the first Grand Prayer that Blesses and Benefits all Sentient Beings (Shui Lu Puja) at KMSPKS.

1969

宏船长老被委佛教施诊所的主席,任期长达18年 (1969- 1986)。

宏船长老1969年5月30日创办并担任《南洋佛教》月刊的社长。

 

 

Venerable Seck Hong Choon was appointed as Chairman of the Singapore Buddhist Free Clinic and held the post for 18 years, from 1969 to 1986.

On 30 May 1969, Venerable Seck Hong Choon founded and started serving as the Head of the Nanyang Buddhist (Nanyang Fo Jiao) monthly journal.

1970

第一夫人薛尔思夫人莅临光明山普觉禅寺拜访宏船长老。宏船长老婉拒了第一夫人有意颁发给他的 “太平绅士” 荣衔。

 

Venerable Seck Hong Choon received a visit from First Lady Mrs. Benjamin Sheares. He humbly declined the conferment of Justice of the Peace appointment by the First Lady.
