Venerable Sik Zhuan Dao, who was the then Abbot of Kaiyuan Temple in Quanzhou, set up two of the four charity organisations — a women’s and elderly nursing home and the Kaiyuan Orphanage.
Venerable Sik Zhuan Dao single-handedly bore the cost to set up Kaiyuan Orphanage. In the following year, Venerable Shi Yuan Ying came to Singapore to help raise funds for the orphanage. Venerable Sik Zhuan Dao personally participated in the fundraising which raised a total of $12,000 over a span of a few months. The fund helped to set up the foundation for the orphanage.
