In 1933, Venerable Sik Zhuan Dao founded the “Singapore Buddhist Sutra Distribution Centre”.

After a series of expansion works made possible through the collaborative efforts of Lee Choon Seng (李俊承), Khoo Seok Wan (丘菽园), Zhuang Duming (庄笃明), and Venerable Sik Zhuan Dao, the centre was formally renamed as “Singapore Buddhist Lodge” (SBL) on 17 June 1934.

Venerable Sik Zhuan Dao personally led the chanting of sutras and taught the practice of deep meditation (dhyāna) at SBL every Wednesday and Sunday night.

On 30 September, the Singapore Buddhist Sutra Distribution Centre set up the “Lotus Chanting Group” and the “Lotus Animal Liberation Group”. Venerable Sik Zhuan Dao personally led the chanting group in the afternoons on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Since the Mid-Autumn Festival of the same year, Venerable Sik Zhuan Dao introduced the practice of monthly animal liberation.
