The installation of this large bell is to commemorate the building of Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery.
The initiative to build the old Hall of Great Strength (the main veneration hall in a Chinese Buddhist monastery), was taken by Venerable Seck Hong Choon, the second Abbot of KMSPKS Monastery. The hall was completed in 1950, thanks to the generous donations from the Haw Par Brothers.
An old photograph dating back to 1980 provides us with a glimpse of the location where the bell was originally hung in the old Hall of Great Strength.
The presence of this large bell serves as a reminder of the old Hall of Great Strength, evoking memories of the ardent support by the local Buddhist community towards Venerable Seck Hong Choon. The successful completion of the old Hall of Great Strength stands as a significant milestone in the propagation of Buddhist Dharma within the local community.
