In 1949, a lay devotee donated this large bell to Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery and it was in use for many decades.
This large bell is used for puja ceremonies and group activities, like the ‘Eight Precepts Observation’, Dharma classes, and other large scale events. Its purpose is to convey the important timings of each event. For example, the first chime is for the commencement, the second chime indicates a meal break, and the next chime signalling end of the event, and so forth.
This large bell has been well-kept in the monastery for over 70 years now. Although it is no longer in use today, it has witnessed many Dharma activities throughout the years, and its presence serves as a great reminder of the past.
